My 2021 intention is to regularly post my photographic explorations in the natural world.

On December 30, my friend Mary and I visited a roaring falls located on River Road, East Putney. We wondered if we could find a name and a source for this water.

The following day, Mary emailed saying she thought it was Chase Brook and she was confident we could find a source.

On January 1 we went exploring . . .

A pine covered penninsula led to a mid sized pond. The terrain was punctuated with the entrances and exits of the local residents.

Beaver life was evident. Although we did not see any of the beavers, the lodge with fresh pine boughs outside indicate active occupancy.

Dead trees stand like statues in the frozen pond.

Empty Great Blue Heron nests perch high in the broken boughs.

Before leaving, we discover two more places of interest. One could be a possible den.

The second could be evidence of a bird hunting for insects wintering in the tree trunk.
